Honda Jazz one life why so serious

honda-jazz1

The journey of the first generation Jazz started in 2001 with its debut launch in Japan. The car is now being sold in more than 115 countries across the Globe.

The first generation Jazz set a benchmark by achieving cumulative sales of more than 2 million units. The truly acclaimed and the stunning performer Honda Jazz , in its Second generation avatar, has been launched finally in India but with a price tag starting from Rs. 7 lakhs the prospective buyers may go for the much more affordable and feature rich Hyundai i20.

Design

Honda's Jazz is one of the cleverest superminis around. It's a thoroughly modern design that's innovative in its use of space, with remarkably good head and rear legroom, well specced, and fitted with frugal and characterful engines.

It's at its best in town where it's both friendly and fun to drive. From the outside the brilliance of the Jazz is not immediately obvious. It has more than a hint of the MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) about it. Though the Honda Jazz is small, Honda's enviable reputation for refinement and reliability shine through clearly.

Take a little look at the exterior of the Honda Jazz and you will see just some of the great styling and body features that saw the Honda Jazz win the Japan Car of the Year in 2001 and 2002 - with a few updated twists here and there.

The Exterior Design of Honda Jazz is stylish and embellish typical Honda design - sharp lines and central bonnet ridge. Sharp headlamps supplements the steeply raked windscreen but the front grille resembles the CR-V. Alloy wheels and ellipsoidal glass area decorates the Jazz side. Taillamp is the pure attraction as it blends with the rear.

Interiors

Get inside and the Jazz will easily accommodate five adults and their luggage. The interior Design of Honda Jazz is most likely to don a dashboard as impressive as that of the Civic.

You sit quite high up in the Jazz, although a good range of seat and wheel adjustment makes it easy for most drivers to get comfortable and find good vision. The cabin is well planned and attractive, with big, easy-to-use buttons.

The view forwards is similar to that found in a baby MPV. Steering wheel is fully adjustable and there's an excellent driving position, although the seats are a little firm. Good all-round visibility from the tall design and large glass areas. Attractive cabin with chunky switches and buttons in all the places you'd expect them. They're user-friendly, and intuitive to use.

Interior build quality is spot-on with quality materials used throughout. Panel fit is perfect and there are no suspicious rattles or squeaks. Jazz is one of the most desirable small cars on sale, thanks to its clever, spacious interior, frugal petrol engine, and Honda's reputation for reliability.

The Jazz practicality has been enhanced with three mode “Magic Seat” configuration to achieve multiple seating and cargo-carrying configurations for long or tall objects in addition to the standard five-passenger mode.

Utility mode : Easy one-motion dive down and reverse operation of the rear seats. The luggage space can be extended to a maximum length of 1,720 mm thanks to the spacious full-flat floor.

Long mode : In Utility mode, place the passenger seat in the full reclining position to create a space up to 2,400 mm long to carry long objects.

Tall mode : Fold up the rear seat cushions to take advantage of Jazz’s 1,280 mm roof height—the perfect way to make space for tall items like house plants.

Engine

The Jazz has been launched in India with a 1.2 L i-VTEC engine which has been specially developed for the Indian Market. It reflects the company's commitment towards India and its continued focus on bringing in the latest global technology into the country.

The engine has been exclusively researched and developed at the Honda R&D centre in Tochigi, Japan to suit Indian road & safety conditions. The revolutionary “Made for India” discovery offers a dual advantage of superior power and low fuel consumption. The future ready E10 compatible engine even ensures environment responsibility by matching Euro IV emission levels.

The new powertrain is a 4 cylinder 1198 cc engine featuring Programmed Fuel Injection delivering class-leading power of 89 Bhp at 6200 rpm and torque of 110 Nm at 4800 rpm while giving an impressive fuel economy of 16.1 km per litre as per ARAI test data. It is expected that Jazz will give mileage of around 13-14 kms per litre in city driving.

Honda India has initially launched Jazz with 1.2 litre engine. But they are also planning to launch another variant of Jazz with much more powerful 1.5 litre 118 Bhp engine which is currently available in Honda City.

The advantage of the i-VTEC engine is that, it regulates the opening of air-fuel intake valves and exhaust valves in accordance with engine speeds. By regulating valve opening to match engine speed, the engine adjusts its characteristics to deliver both superior power and low fuel consumption.

The Jazz chassis realizes both superior ride comfort and agile handling. The high rigidity body and supple suspension provide an exceptional dynamic performance. The car features a McPherson strut suspension in the front.

The H-shaped torsion beam rear suspension achieves the maximum possible space for the rear seats and cargo area as well as steady ride comfort and agile handling. The Electric Power Steering aids the driver to steer the car with less effort and gives better handling.

Safety

Safety of passengers and pedestrians is a top priority for Honda and all safety equipment is standard across all variants. The Honda Jazz comes fully loaded with various active and passive safety features including ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution System), Dual SRS airbags and pre-tensioner seat belts.

Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering Body (ACE) & G-CON (G-Force Control Technology) provide a high integrity survival zone that enhances self-protection and better compatibility in collisions with other vehicles. Honda’s Pedestrian-injury reduction body design helps protect pedestrians from injury in the event of a collision.

Variants & Shades

Honda has launched Jazz in India in 3 variants:

Chevrolet Cruze uses Delta 2 platform

The Chevrolet Cruze will be the first vehicle to use GM's revamped Delta 2 platform, an architecture that will be used on all GM small cars around the globe, including replacements for the Chevrolet HHR, Opel Zafira and its related siblings. PHOTO (select to view enlarged photo)

The Cruze's bodywork will also carry a design vocabulary that will be incorporated into all vehicles across the globe that carry the Chevy bowtie It features a dramatic re-interpretation of the traditional sedan featuring Chevrolet's new global design language that is becoming a signature on all new products carrying the gold bowtie.

It is the result of a development process harnessing GM's global expertise and is the first of a new family of compact products that will deliver world class quality. It will be backed by expected highest scores in all major crash safety ratings.

Design & Style

Cruze's arching roof-line, extending from the steeply raked windshield to its sloping rear pillars and short rear deck, brings coupe-like proportions to a compact sedan.

Wider and longer than most of its competitors, Chevrolet Cruze has a purposeful stance with its wheels located at the outer edges of the tautly drawn bodywork. Noticeably tight body panel fits and a restrained use of exterior trim add to a high quality, 'hewn from solid' appearance.

Chevrolet Cruze's dramatic profile is matched by bold front styling, with large headlamp housings that wrap around the front corners and sweep up, arrow-like, into the fenders and sculpted hood.

Distinct design themes include:

- A concave shoulder line
- 2 Tier grille
- 'wheels-out/body-in' stance.
- 'twin cockpit' design motif, first introduced in the iconic Chevrolet Corvette sports car.

Interiors

The interior is well-proportioned and the sculpted seats offer good support. It's surprisingly quiet in the cabin too which is a good indicator of build quality. We would happily do considerable mileage in this car.

Chevrolet Cruze
Chevrolet Cruze

The interiors appear very attractive with dual tone beige dashboard and leather covered upholstery. Its stylish dashboard that is packed with lots of advanced instruments and beige upholstery makes it interior more stylish.

The Cruze oozes quality, even down to well chosen instruments - including those that have come from the much more expensive Vauxhall Insignia. There shouldn't be any reliability issue to speak of and the use of soft touch materials throughout should mean there's less chance of creaks and rattles.

It will be packed with advanced integrated Blaupunkt RDS Radio / CD player with MP3 CD capability with Six CD Changer audio system with six integrated speakers that offer high class entertainment. Its advanced audio system will be available with MP3 Auxiliary Input Jack and with USB Socket to connect devices like pen drive, mobile phones etc. The audio controls will be mounted on steering wheel so that there will be no need to distract your eyes from road to operate audio system.

Ride & Handling

The front wheels of Cruze will be packed with large ventilated disc brakes while its rear wheels will be packed with solid drum brakes. Its larger diameter disc brakes de-accelerate the car quickly. ABS (Antilock Brake System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution) resists car to skid out of control in case of emergency braking.

Although GM engineers claim that they have been able to optimize this design for both accurate handling and a comfortable ride, it's surprising that the Cruze doesn't feature independent rear suspension like the global Ford platform used for the Mazda 3.

Engine Options

Cruze will be launched in both petrol and diesel. There will be 2 petrol variants - 1.6L, 1598cc,DOHC petrol engine with MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection System). And 2nd petrol variant will be powered by 1.8L, 1796cc, DOHC petrol engine with MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection System).

The diesel variant will be powered by a 2.0L, 1991cc, SOHC diesel engine with Direct Fuel Injection. There will also be a option of 6-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmission.

Safety

Active safety features that will be Dual Front Airbags, front Seat Side Airbags and Roof Curtain Airbags that offers safety in case of collision, ABS (Antilock Brake System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution), Front Ventilated Disc Brakes, Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control.

Passive safety features that will be Side Impact Beams, Height Adjustable Front Seatbelts, Front Seatbelts with Pretensioner, 3x3 Point Rear Seatbelts, Warning Lamp for Driver Seatbelt, Front Seatbelt Reminder, Height Adjustable Headrest with Tilting Function, Knee Protector, ISOFIX Child Seat Restraint System (2nd row outer rear), Child Locks and Central Locking.

Launch Date, Pricing

Chevrolet India is planning to launch the all new cruze next month in a price range of 14-18 lakhs to compete with the likes of Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia & Honda Civic. It is expected that it will be available in atleast 5-7 variants in 6-8 shades.

2010 Audi S5 Convertible Price UK

UK

2010 Audi A5 S5 Cabriolet

Open air A5 range flagship adopts supercharged V6 power to maximise efficiency without diluting driving pleasure

-New S5 Cabriolet now open for order priced at £42,245 OTR – first deliveries in October
-Replaces S4 Cabriolet and adopts supercharged V6 TFSI with 333PS and 440Nm from 2,500-4,850rpm in place of its naturally aspirated V8
-Seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission as standard
-Evolution of quattro system with optional sport differential capable of varying torque not only between front and rear axles but also between each rear wheel
-Optional Audi drive select adaptable dynamics system enables fine-tuning of throttle response, shock absorber settings and steering feel
-S5 Cabriolet 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds, top speed limited to 155mph, combined mpg 29.1, CO2 224g/km
-Lightweight acoustic soft-top opens in 15 seconds, closes in 17 seconds and reduces cabin noise to near fixed head levels
-Cabriolet lovers hopeful of an Indian summer will welcome the new Audi S5 Cabriolet, which becomes available to order in the UK this month priced at £42,245 OTR and will touch down here in October.

The latest A5 range flagship is powered by the same all-new supercharged six-cylinder engine that enables the previously V8-powered S4 Saloon to deliver characteristic sports car pace with atypically high efficiency, and its influence is equally palpable in this latest application. Working exclusively in conjunction with the equally economy-focused 7-speed S tronic twin-clutch sports transmission, the new unit pares CO2 output back to 224g/km and boosts economy to up to 29.1mpg, yet also powers the S5 Cabriolet to 62mph in 5.6 seconds and on to a governed 155mph top speed.

In common with every other S quattro Series model, the outstanding performance is achieved with the help of quattro four-wheel-drive, in this instance in the form of the latest generation asymmetric system with 40/60 rear-biased torque split. The benefits of this configuration in terms of adjustability can be felt even more acutely if the optional sport differential, with its ability to not only transfer torque between the front and rear axles but also between the rear wheels, is specified as part of the Audi drive select adaptive dynamics system. When the steering wheel is turned or the car accelerated in a corner, the differential redirects power in a controlled manner to the outer rear wheel, literally pushing the car through the corner. The driver benefits from reduced steering effort and a feeling of even greater adjustability and control.

Specially tailored ‘S’ sports suspension gives the quattro system and sport differential optimum conditions in which to shine, and lowers the S5 Cabriolet body to within millimetres of its 19-inch 5 parallel spoke alloy wheels. Aluminium-look door mirrors, xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights, rear LED lamps, special ‘S’ front and rear styling treatments and black painted brake callipers bearing the S5 logo will also be distinguishing features.

Outstanding insulation from the elements
The A5 Cabriolet range flagship will of course also feature the most sophisticated version of the lightweight soft-top - the acoustic hood – which with additional insulating layers reduces external noise intrusion into the cabin to virtually the same level as the fixed head Coupe. On the hopefully numerous occasions when it isn’t required, the soft-top retracts in just 15 seconds into a compartment within the boot that automatically lowers to accommodate it. It also raises again in only 17 seconds, and can complete both operations at speeds of up to 31mph.

Roof up or down, the S5 Cabriolet makes light work of transporting up to four adults in comfort, and when the soft top is in place, a best-in-class luggage capacity of 380 litres also enables easy accommodation of luggage for four. In topless mode the roof stowage compartment only marginally reduces this impressive total to 320 litres. Thanks to the standard split/folding rear seat back a maximum capacity of 750 litres can be accessed if required.

Audi UK has enjoyed an exceptionally rapid rise to prominence in the premium sector. In 2000 just over 43,000 Audi models found homes in the UK, and from that point until 2008 the brand has continually broken annual sales records, successfully passing the milestone 100,000 sales mark in 2007 and 2008, when it ended the year with a record 4.7% market share from 100,845 sales. Globally, the brand exceeded 1 million deliveries for the first time in its history in 2008, marking the occasion with its best ever revenue figure and a record profit-before-tax total of 3.177 billion Euros (£2.94 billion) in the process. With its programmes for both road and race cars the brand continues to maintain its dramatic trajectory. On the road it has extended its reach into important new segments with strong offerings such as the A3 Cabriolet, the Q5, the TT RS and the R8 5.2 FSI quattro, and in the near future will break further new ground with the A1 compact hatchback, the Q3 compact SUV and the A5 Sportback five-door coupe. On the race circuit Audi Sport has contested the 2009 Le Mans 24-hour marathon with the R15 TDI - a completely new sports prototype powered by a newly developed ten-cylinder diesel engine.

Maruti Ritz Review

maruti_ritz

Maruti Ritz is perhaps the most awaited and hyped car from Maruti Suzuki. The car is positioned in the premium A2 market segment, which includes its compact offerings such as Alto, WagonR, Swift, Zen and the newly-launched A-Star. Hyundai has already launched their i10 model in the Indian market. Now, it's the turn of market leaders Maruti Suzuki to respond with a brand new vehicle for the Indian market. engineers from Maruti Suzuki worked at close quarters with their Japanese counterparts in the development of the Ritz, much like that for the A-Star. MUL seems to be going the complete distance to ensure that the Ritz manages to make an impact on the cut-throat A-2 hatchback space. How far the new Ritz manages to compete with its couterparts is yet to be seen in the time to come.

MUL seems to ensure that the Ritz manages to make an impact on the cut-throat A-2 hatchback space. Giving the car some added firepower are some interesting new tech-features that will help the Ritz distinguish itself from the competition. We've already seen how the new and ultra-low emissions K12M engine will make the Ritz India's first BS-IV ready passenger car. Engineers from the company have gone one step further and made design modifications to the engine to ensure E10 compatibility - meaning that the Ritz will be able to run on 10% ethanol-petrol blend - whenever the Government decides to implement the sale of such fuel.

Given that unlike in international markets, the rear bench is often used by three and not two adults, special emphasis has been given to the shoulder space and rear seat comfort - a redone seat profile included. To go with the same concept, the Ritz carries a redesigned central console has also been provided to ease the ingress and egress for rear seat passengers.

To take in the sometimes massive potholes in India, ground clearance of the Ritz is a good 30mm higher than that on the Splash. The suspension has been retuned for comfort as per Indian roads. A bigger and wider tyre has also been accommodated, along with the body redesigns needed for the same. Unlike traditional hatchbacks, the rear end has allowed for a thicker C-pillar and made provision for a smaller quarter glass that is not very different from the Swift. With an overall width of 1.68 metres, the Maruti Ritz is 8cm wider than the Wagon R+. Smartly shaped headlights give it a friendly appearance, and they combine with a trapezoidal grille to form a “face” that reflects the new Suzuki family identity.

With the growing involvement and dependence of vehicle mechanisms on electronics, it has become necessary to ensure that the electronics of the car do not malfunction when subject to disturbances emanating from communication towers, high voltage power transmission lines and communication devices. Although such Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) tests are mandatory in Europe, it yet has to be implemented in India. The Ritz however is the first Indian passenger car to have cleared these tests at VRDE's recently established EMC facility.Maruti Ritz
