Maruti Alto is one of the incarnations of the a common platform, designed with the Japanese principles of kei-ji-dosha which strictly decide the dimensions a car must confirm to in order to be called a small car, in japan that is. As a matter of fact, it is the elder brother of the maruti 800. At one point of time, maruti was selling 3 versions of the maruti 800 here - the 800, Alto and the old Zen. All are different generations of same model.

Launched eight years ago, the Alto has displaced the M800 as Maruti's flagship company in the domestic market. Moreover, this model is also exported to other countries including Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Greece, Austria, Ireland, the UK, France, Italy and Sweden and now it plans to start exporting it to new markets like Denmark, Hungary and Portugal.

So far it has exported nearly 2 lakh Altos. During FY 2007-08, Maruti sold sold 227,170 units in the domestic market. Alto sales have actually picked up very fast over the last 24-30 months. While Maruti only sold around 500,000 units of the Alto within the first six years of the car's launch, it has sold around the same number over the last two years.

I own a Oyster blue colored Maruti SX4 and trust me half of the job in terms of looks and styling is done by the color itself. I have always noticed that the pedestrians have always taken a look at my car and have admired the beauty of the car. I am so very proud of it. For me the looks of the car were very important and I like the designing done by the Maruti designers as the back of the car is not that protruding as compared to other sedans in India. The windscreen mirrors are very wide and huge, enabling a perfect vision while on drive. According to me the waistline of the car is simply superb and worth a look.

Comfort; The car gets a thumps up from me as the dashboard and the interiors are done beautifully in the car. Hats off to Maruti Suzuki for doing a fab job in this front. The integrated music system comes with a USB port for those portable devices to be run while on a drive. In terms of the comfort, the audio controls that are mounted on the steering catch a major limelight.
Pickup: The 1500 cc engine in the car powers an excellent pick up and acceleration. The drive offered by the car is really smooth and quick. I have never faced any issue in terms of the pick up even when the AC is switched on most of the time.

Mileage; The car gives the mileage of about 13 kmpl in city areas and that too with the AC switched on. Isn't that superb? I love my car for this.
Best Features; The climate control, the illumination provided in the instrument panel, illuminated audio controls on the steering, three assist grip, rear demister for clear vision etc. The list of features that I love in the car is endless and to pick one of them would be a tough call for me.
Needs to improve: Nothing majorly wrong as such, but as in other Maruti cars, I feel that the quality of plastics used could be improved in the Maruti SX4 as well as that takes away a sense of sophistication.
Overall Experience: I am more than happy to have purchased Maruti SX4. Its a superb car in every sense and am really satisfies as a customer. I suggest the car for anyone looking for a reasonable sedan with some really appealing looks and features.

Maruti Kizashi will soon hit the Indian roads, it is being speculated that the new sedan will come with a price tag of whooping 16 lakh. Earlier also Maruti tried to strengthen its grip in the luxury sedan segment by introducing Maruti Baleno but it did not achieve success.

Maruti Suzuki is now planning to increase its portfolio with the launch of Maruti Kizashi. On the other hand Maruti's yet another model Maruti SX4 has been doing pretty well. Maruti Kizashi was featured in the auto expo in January 2010 in Delhi where the car received great response from onlookers and was highly appreciated for its advanced features, looks and technology. Depending on the demand and response from the Indian buyers Maruti might think to commence the production of this splendid venture in India. But as of now Maruti Kizashi will be shipped from Japan by Suzuki as a completely built unit (CBU).

Right now there are no plans to initiate the production of this new venture in India. Consisting of 2.4 litre petrol engine which is mated with a six speed manual transmission is also capable of churning out a top power of 185 hp with the maximum torque of 230 Nm. Maruti Kizashi will come in two wheel drive version in India, however it is available in two wheel drive and four wheel drive versions in the international auto markets.

Design of New Maruti WagonR

The new model of WagonR looks much better than the current generation WagonR. New WagonR is based on the very Japanese way of creating cars, gone are the boxy looks, the shape of New WagonR is more rounded. Maruti Suzuki India has christened the New WagonR as ‘The Blue-Eyed-Boy’ as it features smart looking blue tinge in the big headlamps. This time the facelift is quite major as Maruti engineers has used all new chassis which is wider that the last generation one and hence the new WagonR looks wide and more proportionate than the old WagonR.

The grille of new WagonR looks very sleek with a chrome strip on top with big Suzuki logo in centre. The front and rear bumpers are also new with a big air dam in front bumpers which also features integrated round fog lamps. The side of new WagonR is more or less same like the old model with side strips on the doors. The top model of new WagonR features body coloured bumpers, door handles and outside rear view mirrors. Very similar to the original Yeti concept, seen at Geneva in 2005, the production version adds five doors and a simpler front end, with a traditional Skoda grille and spotlights. Skoda has done a very neat job on the Yeti's interior. It exudes class, with a dashboard that would look at home in an Audi and classy instruments instead of green functional dials of old. The back seats slide to alter the balance between boot and passenger space, and the high seating position and deep footwell provide more room than you'd guess from the outside. According to Skoda, new Skoda Fabia will be of 3992 mm in length (well under 4000mm to enjoy tax sops) 1642 mm in breadth and 1498 mm in height Fabia is largest in its class. According to officials in Renault, the small car developed by Bajaj Auto featuring DTSi technology that will be marketed by Renault-Nissan alliance in India will be smaller than Maruti Suzuki’s Alto.

Maruti Suzuki recovers on a likely hike in car prices

At the day's low of Rs 1415, the stock declined 0.70%.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was down 8.47 points, or 0.05%, to 17,576.40.

On BSE, 78,698 shares were traded in the counter as against an average daily volume of 1.42 lakh shares in the past one quarter.

The stock hit a high of Rs 1444 and a low of Rs 1415 so far during the day.

The stock had tumbled 9.74% in ten trading sessions to Rs 1416.85 on 14 January 2010 from a recent high of Rs 1569.75 on 30 December 2009.

The company's equity capital is Rs 144.46 crore. Face value per share is Rs 5.

The current price of Rs 1433.50 discounts the company's Q2 September 2009 annualized EPS of Rs 78.91, by a PE multiple of 18.17.

As per reports, the price rise would take place in a couple of weeks. The rise in prices is due to escalation of commodity prices, especially of steel and copper, reports suggest.

Maruti Suzuki India reported 50.6% increase in total vehicle sales to 84,804 units in December 2009 over December 2008. Domestic sales rose 36.5% to 71,000 units, while exports surged 223.7% to 13,804 units

Maruti Suzuki, last week, unveiled its brand new model Maruti Eeco at the Delhi Auto Expo priced at Rs 2.59 lakh. Eeco, which will be available in 5-seater and 7-seater versions, is expected to initially sell 40,000 units annually.

According to recent reports, Maruti Suzuki plans to raise production by up to 75% over the next five years in a bid to hold on to its 50% market share.

Maruti is seen reporting robust Q3 December 2009 results on strong volume growth. Maruti Suzuki's Q3 advance tax rose 196.3% to Rs 400 crore.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has recently unveiled the latest MPV in its line up, the Maruti EECO. Built on the Versa platform, the new EECO will be available in three different variants – a 5-seater standard, 5-seater with AC, and a 7-seater standard. Prices for the standard 5-seater EECO will start at Rs. 2,59,000 ($5640), while the 7-seater standard EECO will be available at Rs. 2,75,000 ($5991).

The Maruti EECO will come equipped with a new 1.2L petrol engine that is compliant with India’s Stage IV emissions requirements. The new engine is capable of outputting 73 bhp at 6000 rpm and 104 Nm of torque at 3000 rpm.

The EECO comes slightly lower (1800mm) than the other MPV’s from the Maruti staple like the aging Maruti Omni and Versa. The EECO is 3675 mm long, 1475 mm wide, with a wheel base of 2350 mm and a turning radius of a reasonable 4.5 meters. Some of the notable features include sliding driver seats, dual-tone styling, tubeless tyres, and a powerful braking system.

“Maruti Suzuki engineers have specially developed the Eeco, its new powerful engine and a new transmission system to meet the diverse consumer aspirations that look for a vehicle that fit a large family and at the same time provides flexibility for dual use.” Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. India’s biggest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd will take a call on increasing the price of its line-up by the end of this month after completing negotiations that are under way with suppliers of increasingly expensive raw materials such as steel.

Rival manufacturers such as Fiat India Automobiles Pvt. Ltd and Toyota Kirloskar Motors Ltd have already announced a price hike as rising demand for steel, rubber, aluminium and copper push up the prices of such inputs, putting car makers’ margins under pressure.

“We are currently negotiating with our suppliers for the second half—Q3 and Q4—and the contracts will be finalized in the next few weeks,” Ajay Seth, chief financial officer at Maruti Suzuki, told Mint. The company will decide on a price increase after the discussions, he said on the sidelines of the launch of the Eeco, Maruti’s new multi-purpose vehicle.

Typically, Maruti negotiates steel prices for six months with its suppliers and prices of other commodities are either hedged or left open, he said, adding that the company expects commodity prices to harden further.

Prices of steel are rising. Tata Steel Ltd, India’s biggest producer of the alloy, increased spot-market prices of its products used to make automobiles and appliances by as much as Rs1,500 per tonne early in the new year.

Prices of rubber, aluminium and copper rose 15%, 13% and 23%, respectively, in the quarter ended December over the preceding three months.

Seth said this will also have an adverse impact on the company’s margins. “The (rise in) commodity prices between the Q3 and Q4 will have an impact of at least 200 basis points on our margins over the previous quarter,” he said. One basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point.

The company is working closely with vendors to pare imported content. Currently, imported content of Maruti vehicles as a percentage of total sales is 25%. Of this, 10% is made up of direct imports by Maruti and the remaining 15% through vendors.

In the next three years, Maruti plans to bring vendors’ share of imported content down to 5%. The full impact of localizing parts supplied by vendors on the company’s margins will kick in over the next two years. “This is the first year. Normally for the components we localize, the benefits are 20-25%,” he said.

Interestingly, this SX4 uses a previously unseen hybrid system developed by Maruti Suzuki with assistance from India's National Hybrid Propulsion Program and the (deep breath) Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Sources' High Energy Density Battery Development Program.

This new hybrid drivetrain is a full parallel system – meaning it can run on electricity alone for short distances – utilizing a 1.2-liter gasoline-burning engine with a 50 kW electric motor. Unlike many hybrids that use a CVT transmission, the SX4 is equipped with a five-speed automated manual unit. A lithium ion battery pack of unknown capacity stores the electrons.

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled its latest concept car, the R3 MPV inside New Delhi's Auto Expo 2010. Despite its small footprint, the Indian-designed vehicle actually secrets six individual seats.

MSi has yet to detail what platform underpins the R3, let alone what powertrain is inside the concept (if any), but the concept is said to provide a very good look at a forthcoming Indian-market model that could hit the country's roads within two years. Some sources are suggesting that the people mover could be motivated by anything from a Fiat-sourced 1.3-liter diesel to Suzuki's own 1.2- or 1.4-liter gasoline engines. Hyundai i10 Diesel

Hyundai i10 common rail diesel.After the huge success of Hyundai i10 and Hyundai i20 they are launching the diesel version of i10.The i10 diesel will be launched in early 2010.The common rail diesel i10 will be having two variants 1.4litre CRDi and 1.1 litre CRDi engine.The 1.4 litre diesel model kicks out 88 bhp which is enough to bring it to the top of its class.The 1.1L CRDi will be producing around 70 bhp which is ample.These models are supposed to give out improved drivability and improved fuel efficiency.The i10 diesel will have a slightly increased price , 20%-25% more than the petrol model of Hyundai i10.The first model of i10 was launched in 2007 and till this time the Hyundai motors had a sale of more than 3lakh units all over the world.

Hyundai i10 is a hatch back which suits all modern day requirements.The South Korean car manufacturer is the third largest car manufacturer in India at present.The are planning to localize the diesel engines which could bring down the price around 20%.

Tata Nano diesel and hybrid to be shown at Auto Expo

Tata could display Nano hybrid, diesel and electric at the Auto Expo next month

DNA India reports Tata could bring off-beat variants of Nano to the Auto Expo. The exhibits could be powered by a diesel engine and possibly hybrid and electric powertrain as well.

Tata Motors has confirmed it is working on the hybrid Nano and on its official website hinted it will offer Nano diesel in future. The electric Nano or E-Nano has also been doing media rounds since the unveiling of the car in the previous edition of the Auto Expo.

Tata Motors is believed to be working on several variants of the Nano including a half-tonne pick-up truck for short distance load hauling.

2010 Mercedes-Benz E350 Coupe

I'm a big fan of Mercedes' newly redesigned rear-wheel-drive E-Class sedans and coupes, and I'm not the only one. The E is the only class of Mercedes that has shown a sales increase in the U.S. market this year. Total sales soared 113.1% in November, to 4,828.

A major reason for the E's success is obvious: It's reasonably priced, at least by German standards. The new E-Class sedan is actually cheaper than the outgoing model, and the coupe is cheaper than the CLK coupe it's replacing. The E350 coupe starts at $48,925 and the E350 sedan at $49,475. The higher-end E550 coupe starts at $55,525, the E550 sedan at $57,175. Add an extra $2,500 for all-wheel drive in either sedan. (AWD isn't offered in the coupe.)

In redesigning the E-Class, Daimler (DAI) did what it does best. The V6-powered E350 and V8 powered E550 sedans are classic luxury cars that fall in the middle of the product range in terms of price and size but have traditional styling, solidity, and high-tech options reminiscent of the top-of-the-line Mercedes S Class. The sedan gives Mercedes a clearer alternative to the BMW (BMWG:IX) 5 Series and Volkswagen's (VOWG:IX) Audi A6, one that's more comfort-oriented without making big compromises on performance.

The new E-Class coupe (the version of the car I test drove) is smaller and sportier than the sedan—nearly seven inches shorter, six inches narrower, three inches lower, and 200 lbs. lighter. About the size of the Mercedes C-Class, the E coupe competes more directly with the BMW 3 Series than with the 5 Series. It's a marvelous vehicle if you can get past the fact that it isn't available with a stick shift. A seven-speed automatic with manual shifting function is the only transmission in both the E sedan and coupe.

As with other German cars, one appeal of the E-Class is the wide variety of niche models it comes in. For speed-lovers, there's the E63 AMG (powered by a 518-hp V8) that competes with BMW's M5, VW's Audi S6, and General Motors' Cadillac CTS-V. A four-seater E350 Cabriolet with a new sound-dampening soft top is due out next May. The following month, a diesel-powered E350 Bluetec is due out. A new E-Class station wagon, designed to compete with models such as the Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon, will also hit showrooms next June.

The available engines provide plenty of power. The E350 coupe has a 3.5-liter, 268-horsepower V6 under its hood while the E550 is powered by a 5.5-liter, 382-horsepower V8. The E350 Bluetec sedan comes with a 3.0-liter, 210-horsepower diesel V6 that generates an incredible 400 lb.-ft of torque.

As with other sport luxury models, fuel economy isn't great. The E350 coupe is rated to get 17 miles-per-gallon in the city and 26 on the highway for an average of 20; the E350 sedan does slightly better, at 18 mpg city and 26 highway, for an average of 21. The E550 Coupe and Sedan are both rated at 16 city and 24 highway, for an average of 18. (The Bluetec isn't yet rated.)

VW Beetle and Touareg launched

Volkswagen has launched its super-successful New Beetle in the Indian market today. The car has been introduced with a price tag of Rs 20.45 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The car will be available as a CBU through Volkswagen dealerships.

The New Beetle has been launched with 115 bhp, 2.0-litre petrol engine. Adding to the comfort and ease of use will be the 6-speed automatic gearbox. The charm and appeal of the New Beetle nevertheless remains with its classic styling, inspired by the original people?s car that went on to become the best selling car of a single design in the world in its decades long run.

The New Beetle was introduced internationally in 1998 and has been a success ever since. In fact it was the car that can be credited with kicking off the retro-chic segment, in which modern and comfortable interpretations of long standing classic cars are making a rapid resurgence as fashion statements. Amongst these are the MINIs, and the Fiat 500 which is already on sale in India.

2010 VW Beetle Coupe and Convertible "Final Editions"

2010 is the year that Volkswagen is saying farewell to today's generation of the Beetle legacy as they introduce the new 2010 Beetle Coupe and Convertible "Final Editions." Only 1,500 units of each model will be available in the U.S., beginning spring 2010.

To set the new, more exclusive Beetles aside from the rest on the road, each individual car has its own numbered "Final Edition" badge located on the exterior of the car and the steering wheel. Matching the interior, the convertible comes with a white top that coordinates with the "special exterior paint scheme." Fog lights have been incorporated into the bumper to complete the look.

Both models are equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels and a sport-tuned suspension. Powering the final new Beetles is the 150hp 2.5 liter five-cylinder engine with 170 lb–ft of torque—good for 20 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.

The Coupe comes in either a five-speed manual, or the optional six-speed automatic while the Convertible comes with the auto as standard equipment. The "Final Edition" Coupe and Convertible will be priced at $20,240 and $27,170 respectively.
