Design & Style

Captiva looks great with a tall and chunky appearance. Roof rails and plastic side mouldings give it real off-road credibility. he exterior it is dominated by large 6-spoke alloy wheels with bold wheel-arches and tubeless tyres. The car also features perfectly placed cylindrical prism type headlamps, LED type turn signal lamps, turn signal repeaters integrated in the door mirrors and pull-out type chrome door handles.

Its sleek yet bold design is accentuated by strong wheel arches and a sweeping feature line that runs from the front fender vent through to the tail lamps. A grey sill finish runs around the vehicle, reducing its apparent height and is interrupted by contrasting ‘undertray’ features on front and rear bumpers.

Interiors and comfort

The neatly designed dashboard and centre console look good. And although hard cabin plastics are the order of the day, solid build quality and generous equipment compensate. The third row of seats can accommodate two teenagers and even adults for shorter journeys. The interior materials are good quality upgraded plastics. The seating offered on the Captiva is flexi type. The second and third row seats can be folded. The driver's seat is 8-way electrically adjustable. Audio controls are mounted on the steering wheel for driver's convenience. The actual audio controls and air conditioning dials too are easily accessible.

A CD player and air con, plus the inevitable reminders for seatbelts and key in ignition. Storage for five-passenger car is 465 litres, rising to 930 litres when you lower the second row. However, if you use all seven seats, room for luggage is restricted to 85 litres. Whatever layout you choose, there is the benefit of opening rear glass, so you needn’t raise the entire tailgate to gain access to the boot. Unfortunately, the heating panel and stereo are positioned far too low, while a needless storage cubby occupies the more desirable location higher up.

Engine & Ride Quality

The 2.0 litre four cylinder VCDi diesel engine is the first of an all-new family of diesel engines that have been developed jointly by GM Powertrain and GMDAT with Italian firm VM Motori. It develops maximum power of 148 Bhp @ 4000 rpm with maximum torque of 320 Nm @ 2000 rpm. It has aluminium cylinder heads, sophisticated injection systems and a variable geometry turbocharger for smooth turbo intervention from low rev levels. It consists of a MacPherson strut configuration at the front and an independent four link set up at the rear.

Captiva's 4×4 set-up is an on-demand system, meaning that as driving conditions require, the rear axle is instantly selected via an electromagnetic coupling to give maximum traction through all four wheels. The set-up also seamlessly interacts with the ESP and ABS systems, enhancing driver control of the vehicle and safety margins. The ESP itself has additional functions like HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist), HDC (Hill Descent Control) and ARP (Active Rollover Protection). Overall, it is a well proportioned and feature packed SUV with good off-road capabilities.

Very similar to the original Yeti concept, seen at Geneva in 2005, the production version adds five doors and a simpler front end, with a traditional Skoda grille and spotlights. Ford unveiled its new small car "Figo" in September, 2009 in New Delhi with Alan Roger Mulally, Ford's president and chief executive, making a lightening visit to the country for the unveiling. And now Figo has been launched and will compete with the likes of Maruti Ritz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz & Skoda Fabia. Design-conscious Italy inspired the new Ford Figo's name is colloquial Italian for "cool." Figo gets completely fresh interior package which means a brand new instrument panel, seats and trim. According to Ford insiders, the interiors will set new standards for small hatchbacks combining class-leading aesthetics and functionality. Built on the same 2498mm wheelbase as the Indian Fiesta and Ikon, the Figo has a similar amount of passenger space as its saloon siblings. Ford's Fusion has never been able to sell in good numbers even it was available in diesel. Ford bets very high with Figo and want to change the complete scenario in luxury small car market. Figo's interiors are very funky and colorful which looks very good and up to date in comparison to other cars in its segment.

All models feature a black-themed interior highlighted with red or blue accents. Door panels on the up-level models include cloth inserts with distinctive blue striping matching the seat pattern. On Zxi and Titanium models, consumers also will be able to choose a coral red coloured instrument panel option. The bold colour themes are inspired by India’s colourful traditions and taste. Black finish looks much better in comparison to red and also red shade reflects in the front windscreen in sunlight. Engine Options In Ford Figo

Ford Figo has been launched with 2 engine options:

- 1196cc DuraTec Petrol - 70 Bhp
- 1399cc DuraTorq Diesel - 68 Bhp

The diesel engine is the same 1.4 Duratorq 68bhp motor that powers the Ikon & Fiesta saloons. The Duratorq motor is incredibly responsive at low speeds and hugely economical too which should suit the urban driving conditions the Figo will mostly cater to.

The petrol engine is the all new all-aluminium 1.2-litre petrol motor which is essentially a scaled-down version of Sigma petrol engines that power the Fiesta saloon. It generates maximum power of 70 Bhp. Belonging to the same engine family, it shares common architecture like double overhead cams, four valves per cylinder an aluminium block.

A five-speed manual transmission is standard equipment on both engines. The clutch has been designed for low effort due to frequent application for shifting in high traffic found in the Indian market. Service & Maintainance of Ford Figo

Service for the Figo also has been enhanced. Ford India recently announced the opening of 28 dealerships in India, bringing the total number of Ford outlets to 164 facilities in 97 cities. Nearly 50 facilities feature Quick Service, a new servicing process that is designed to quickly perform routine maintenance in less than 90 minutes.

As part of the initial pricing, all Figo models will be covered with Roadside Assistance for two years. Additional extended warranty plans and total maintenance options will be available to the consumer. Combined with service intervals that are among the longest, and high-durability parts that are competitively priced, Figo is among the leaders with a standard scheduled service plan of five years or 100,000 kilometres.
